The project was designed to strengthen the preparedness and response capacity of government institutions at the provincial and district levels across Sindh. Implemented by HEADS Pakistan with support from USAID through the HumAhang Program, the project aimed to equip officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and District Disaster Management Units (DDMUs) with essential knowledge and tools for effective disaster risk management (DRM) and disaster risk reduction (DRR). Through targeted training sessions and collaboration with key humanitarian actors, the initiative focused on enhancing coordination, integrating gender inclusion, and ensuring comprehensive planning for emergencies and natural disasters.
Project Objectives:
- Enhance the capacity of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and District Disaster Management Units (DDMUs) in disaster preparedness, response, and management.
- Equip participants with skills in disaster management planning, familiarity with policies, and the use of data for risk management.
- Ensure representation and active participation of women and persons with disabilities.
Key Activities:
- Conducted two 2-day training workshops in Karachi and Sukkur with participation from all districts of Sindh.
- Designed and delivered training sessions in collaboration with UNOCHA, PDMA Sindh, and other UN partners (UNFPA, UNFAO, AKAH).
- Covered technical topics including humanitarian coordination, information management, DRM cycle, CBDRM, and contingency planning.
- Utilized participatory methods such as group work, Q&A sessions, and multimedia presentations.
- Conducted pre- and post-training assessments to evaluate knowledge improvement.
- Distributed branded IEC materials and shared electronic resources and certificates.
- Collected participant feedback and submitted milestone and final reports to USAID and HumAhang.
